Nadia Nakai, South Africa’s fierce hip-hop queen, was born in Johannesburg with Zimbabwean roots and a fire to conquer. After sharpening her mind with a Marketing Communications degree from Monash University and a stint in Kenya, she dove into TV, dazzling on SABC 1’s Battle Stations and PR TV’s Daily Planet, while rubbing shoulders with A-listers at the SAMAs, Metro FM Awards, and MTV EMAs. But music was her true calling.
Signing with Family Tree Media, Nadia dropped the scorching Money Back, a hit that echoed across MTV Base and ETV’s Rhythm City. Her 2016 EP Bragga stormed iTunes’ hip-hop chart, hitting #2, followed by the explosive Naaa Meaan with Cassper Nyovest—South Africa’s first female hip-hop video to smash 1M YouTube views. The 2018 club banger Yass Chic and a nomination for Best Video at SAMA 2018 kept her crown shining. Nadia’s hustle earned her nods at the SA Hip Hop Awards and Metro FM Awards, plus a groundbreaking Do Like I Do remix. She slayed fashion too, selling out her Nadia Nakai x Redbat collection in a month and gracing Cosmopolitan and Man Mag covers.
Now, with her reality show Inside Life on MTV and her own label, Bragga Records, launched in 2021, Nadia’s rewriting the game, blending grit, glamour, and unstoppable ambition.
